Welcome Back to School!
We hope that you had a relaxing summer break and are charged up for the new year! As we prepare for the 2026-27 school year, we look forward to working together to help our students to stay away from tobacco, nicotine products, and marijuana.
We encourage you to continue to avail yourselves of the free resources available through the TUPE Office, the TUPE Capacity Building Project, and your colleagues across the state. We want to remind you about the family outreach resources developed last year for the Teen Vaping: What Parents and Caregivers Need to Know campaign. We encourage you to take advantage of the campaign’s free printed materials and electronic resources. These are available in California’s 22 most spoken languages.
In addition, we would like to remind you about the resources available to TUPE grantees through the TUPE Canvas website. The site includes information on upcoming events, TUPE meetings, TUPE grant deadlines, and a TUPE community toolbox. If you are a TUPE grantee and do not have access to the TUPE Canvas website, please send a request to tupeca@ocde.us.

Truth Initiative released their seventh annual analysis of tobacco imagery in popular entertainment reveals a troubling picture as smoking continues to permeate top shows, movies, and music videos — despite research that it makes young people more likely to vape nicotine. The California Department of Education (CDE) TUPE Office has released a new fact sheet that is now avaible in Spanish! This fact sheet highlights the importance of tobacco-free school policies. Keeping schools free from tobacco helps protect students' health and creates a safer learning environment for everyone!

Zyn nicotine pouches are marketed as a safer option than cigarettes, but they're packed with addictive nicotine and harmful chemicals. Their rising popularity among young people is sparking concern over new addiction risks.
